O Remus, Brother, Where Art Thou? Short Sleeve T-shirt
Availability: In stock
Romulus and Remus were the mythical founders of Rome. According to the old legend, they were children of Rhea Silvia and Mars, the god of war. Shortly after their birth in a city called Alba Longa, the king tried to get rid of them. After all, their mother was a daughter of his deposed predecessor and the twins posed threat his power. The king's plan didn't work. The boys were supposed to be drowned in the river, but a she-wolf saved their lives. Later, a herdsman found them and raised them. Eventually, Romulus and Remus became strong young men, deposed the evil usurper and returned the crown to their grandfather, the rightful king.
The twins left Alba Longa in order to found a completely new city where they could rule. They found a great place for a new settlement n the banks of the Tiber river. However, disagreements appeared. They argued about the name of their new city and only a divine omen settled that dispute in favour of Romulus. Another conflict between the brothers was connected to the walls of their new city. Just when Romulus started building them, his brother mockingly leapt over their foundations. This was just too much for Romulus to handle. Enraged, he attacked Remus and took his life.
Romulus became the first king of Rome, while Remus became a corpse.
Wear this T-shirt as a reminder of the legend. The design is based on a 17th-century painting by Paul Rubens, but the little Remus is missing.
